References are essentials in drawing.  To be a good artist, there has to be some level of accuracy and you achieve that by having references. So far, most of my uploads have been me copying a picture from a comic book or an online page.  That's not helpful.  I've always wanted to get better and thought that if I drew these pictures long enough, I would understand the art and science behind these pieces.  I realize now that to get better, I have to draw from my head and use references to help me stay accurate. I decided to start a webcomic about one of my favorite childhood heroes, Ji Gong.  I recently posted concept character design I made of him.  Any comments or critiques is appreciated. The reason I decided to do this is because its a step forward.  I can get better at one thing by doing it over and over again, but that limits my abilities to just doing that.  If I want to be versatile, I have to push my limits and explore different aspects of drawing.  In my case, instead of always drawing people, doing a webcomic will let me develop additional skills in writing, scenery drawing, paneling, inking, drawing animals.. etc.  Hopefully, by doing t

I just finished a Superman (by who I am still researching).  The amount of detail for the shading is a lot.  I have a hard time picturing what parts are being shaded, what parts are left alone and why.  The important question is why.  On a normal cube or sphere, light shining from an angle would leave one side to be shaded while the other sided is still lit up.  That is really straight forward, but on the human body, there are so many curvatures, it is difficult for me to figure out which part am I suppose to give some light to. In addition, I still don't know what muscles are sticking out in the arm/leg.  I am using a couple of art books fo
